  Overview

  There is a wide variety of classes on offer at the Lakota Summer Institute, and so students are organized into schedules that take into account your fluency level, how many years you have previously attended, and which dialect you want to focus on. Identify which Schedule you are part of before checking the classes available to you below. At particular points on certain Schedules, you will be able to choose between two or three different classes.

  • Schedule 1: New students. Depending on demand, new students will be divided into smaller groups (A & B) who take the same classes, just in a different order. Furthermore, a Youth Group is available in Week 1 for new students aged 10–15.
  • Schedule 2: Students returning for their second year.
  • Schedule 3: Students returning for their third year.
  • Schedule 4: Students returning for their fourth year.
  • Schedule 5: Fluent speakers of Lakota/Dakota and students returning for their fifth year.
  • Yanktonai Dakota: Students and speakers wanting to focus on the Yanktonai Dakota dialect
  • Santee Dakota: Students and speakers wanting to focus on the Santee Dakota dialect
