Nāʻilima Gaison

  • Nāʻilima Gaison is Native Hawaiian from the Hawaiian Home Lands of Keaukaha who received his MA in Indigenous Language and Culture Education from University of Hawaiʻi, Hilo. He is one of the first Hawaiian immersion teachers at the Pūnana Leo o Hilo preschool language nest, where he taught for 19 years before moving to the kindergarten classroom at Ke Kula ʻo Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu (Nāwahī), where he has taught for 11 years. He is also a Hawaiian language lecturer at Ka Haka ʻUla O Keʻelikōlani, College of Hawaiian Language at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, and an online teacher of advanced Hawaiian language courses on Niuolahiki, an ʻAha Pūnana Leo distance-learning program. He has networked and shared experiences with many indigenous communities throughout the world.
